Overbeck’s Garden

DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK
One of the best places to visit is Dartmoor National Park.
Dartmoor is a breathing-taking expanse of wild, open moorland where cattle, ponies and sheep run free! Here, one can experience nature in all its glory!
With each and every aspect of this incredible landscape… from the dramatic rocky outcrops, known as Tors, down to its beautiful rivers, the Dart tumbles its way through the heathland, down through ancient wooded gorges of boulders and over waterfalls.
The natural fall of Becky Falls or the stunning man-made Victorian folly, Canonteign Falls, are two very beautiful places set in their own magical paradise and definitely worth a visit. A day out for all the family that can be as gentle or as adventurous as you wish it to be!
But, … if you need some guidance to know what’s best to do… head for one of the three Park’s Visitors Centres, a good place to help plan your visit.
A great way to introduce children and young people to the joys of the great outdoors on Dartmoor is trying the modern twist on treasure hunting .. ‘ letterboxing or geocaching ‘ which is a combination of orienteering and puzzle solving together. It’s a challenge and fun!
A favourite place for lunch is the very unique, hideaway cottage, The Rugglestone Inn in the picturesque village of Widecombe-in-the Moor. With a stream running down through the garden, ducks and chickens roaming free, the old stone moorland farmhouse is cosy, inside log fires are burning and a warm welcome awaits. The menu is extensive, serving generous platters of delicious, locally sourced food.
Whatever you choose to do, there is something for everyone, whether it be walking, cycling or horse riding or just sitting by a river a having a picnic and taking in the peace and beauty that surrounds you and it’s free! Even stargazing on clear nights can be a truly amazing experience!
